The ambulance service for Greene County is under new ownership.

The transfer of service became official at 6pm on Thursday, February 28th and almost immediately there was a call for a transport of an individual, and since then newly hired Director Michele Madsen says they haven’t missed a call for service yet. Madsen is a Churdan native with 20 years of emergency medical and paramedic experience. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio she previously worked for the local ambulance service when it was owned by Dennis and Marcia Morlan and says that at this point in her career, she was ready to be in a director position.

The Greene County Board of Supervisors took another step in their ownership by hiring 11 part-time and full-time employees at their recent meeting on Monday. They currently have two full-time paramedics and two full-time emergency medical technicians on staff, with the goal of getting to three full-time positions for both and the employee scheduling goal of 24-hours on and 48-hours off rotation for a two ambulance crew.

Supervisor Chair John Muir got a first-hand glimpse of the operation when visiting the ambulance bay.

“When I was in there they were busy trying to get themselves organized and getting housekeeping stuff done but there’s a lot of energy. They all seem to be really focused in on what they wanted to do and I think the energy is going to be great.”

The Supervisors are proposing about $512,000 for expenses and $350,000 for revenues for the ambulance service for the next fiscal year. Muir says they have worked with Sheriff Jack Williams, along with previous Interim Director now full-time paramedic Lacy Brubaker, and the Morlans to get the Supervisors to this point. Going forward, Muir shares what he wants to see from Madsen and the new county department.

“My wish is to not micromanage. She (Madsen) knows her job and what’s expected. I think it’ll be fine and it’ll be good.”

The ambulance service was previously owned by the Morlans for over 32 years. A full list of all of the ambulance employees can be found below.
