U.S. Senator Joni Ernst paid a visit to Adel yesterday morning as part of her yearly 99 County Tour around Iowa.
The Senator held a town hall meeting in the auditorium at Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School, and many from the community and beyond attended. Ernst addressed several questions about President Donald Trump and his frequent disparaging comments on Twitter regarding the late Senator John McCain. Ernst informed the audience that she did not approve of the President’s behavior, and publicly encouraged him to cease his Twitter rants regarding her former colleague.
Other topics of conversation during the event included: the Supreme Court composition; the national debt and government spending; the recent flooding disaster in Iowa; the proposed Social Security changes relating to paid leave; mass shootings and gun regulation; and rising health care and prescription drug costs. At the end of the event, she promised attendees that she’ll take what they said to heart when she returns to the Senate. “Please note that when I come out to these town halls, it’s really good to hear from you; hear directly what’s affecting you, and that way I can take this right back and start working (on) some of these issues in Washington, D.C. But I appreciate the input, the thoughts, and the time you actually took to come out and share some time with me this morning. So thanks so much for coming out.”
Ernst visits each county in Iowa at least once each year as part of her 99 County Tour. The events range from large forums — like yesterday’s — to smaller affairs with individual businesses — like her visit to the Glen-Gery Brick Plant in Redfield last year.
