The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.
The first part of the meeting was an 8 a.m. Assessor’s Conference Board session, where they set a public hearing for April 16th at 8 a.m. to present the fiscal year 2020 budget. There was a mistake in publishing notice for the previous hearing, so the process had to start over. During the regular meeting, the first item was a presentation from the Dallas County Children’s Advocacy Council regarding Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Board approved a proclamation declaring April as the Awareness Month, and gave their blessing for the council to place a banner on the courthouse grounds.
At 9:30 a.m., there was a public hearing where the Supervisors approved an overhang easement with MidAmerican Energy for powerlines over the Raccoon River Valley Trail. After that, the Board approved installing a new ventilation system in the Sheriff’s evidence building. They also took no official action, but supported formulating plans for remodels for the two buildings occupied by the Auditor’s Office at 910 Court Street, and 210 North 10th Street. Additionally, the Supervisors indicated that they plan to terminate their lease on the building currently occupied by the driver’s license station, effective after the next fiscal year. Instead, they plan to bank on the State Legislature approving a new Department of Transportation station in the County.
The Board then discussed but took no action on an ambulance and equipment purchase for the Emergency Medical Services Department, which will be brought back next week for consideration. Other items approved included: the continuation of the 28E agreement between the County and the City of Dexter for law enforcement services; opposition to Senate File 184 regarding state issued overweight permits on County roads; the new County cell phone policy; and the acknowledgement of township budget certifications, as well as the sale of Bankers Trust to UMB Bank. The meeting concluded with a Human Services workshop.
