The Perry girls track and field team is in a unique position as they get set for the upcoming season tomorrow night at Dewey Field. Head coach Matt Hardy has plenty of sprinters to choose from but it’s a completely different story in the mid distance races. “Yeah, this is really a first for me,” stated the head coach. “We have been pretty spoiled the past couple of years when we had some 400 and 800 meter runners. Obviously (Sid) Vancil comes to mind and now this year it seems we have plenty of sprinting options but are still searching for that depth in the mid-distance races.”
Hardy says not only does it impact the individual events, but it has a huge impact on the relays.
“The relays are what really takes the hit. It’s tough to string together some relays when you don’t quite have the experience at the backend.”
Perry will compete in the Davis Relays tomorrow in Perry.
