The ACGC track and field teams got their outdoor seasons off to good starts this week with several medals and personal records. Though no group has arguably improved early on this season as much as the throwers.
Junior Quynton Younker set a new school record in the shot put at the Davis Relays in Perry on Thursday with a launch of 44 feet, ten inches. Younker shares with Raccoon Valley Radio a couple key elements in the improvements. “Coach Matthewson, he came in as a football coach and he wanted to change the culture (at ACGC). I want to be a part of that. Weightlifting is a huge part of that. Just coming in and showing up is a huge part of that.”
Classmate Sam Madsen also set a new personal best in Perry with a throw of 42 feet, seven inches. No Charger male has ever qualified for the state tournament in the shot put. On the girls side, Senior Madison McDermott claimed her first title in the shot put at Perry with a throw of 36 feet, three inches. Sophomore Mady Kelsey is also set to make an impact for the gold and black on the girls side.
