The Greene County boys were to have opened the high school soccer season today at the Perry Invitational, but that event has been postponed due to weather until April 20.

The Greene County girls are scheduled to open the 2019 season on Monday, April 1 in Stuart vs. West Central Valley. Coach Marilyn Tasler’s Rams won two matches in 2018, the first season that Greene County High School had its own soccer programs.

Ashley Harmeyer is a junior on the girls’ team. Soccer goals was an issue a season ago. She was asked if it’s realistic for the Rams to score more goals this season. “I sure hope so. I think the drills we’ve been doing will help us out a lot, and we’ve got a lot of players returning, not as many new people. We’re all trying to get the hang of it, and it should be better, hopefully!”

Sophomore Makala Kafer and junior Kassie Lamoureux are both on the soccer team, while also running for the track team. Lamoureux was asked to talk about her reasons for doing both. “Well, Greene County has its own soccer team now, so I thought it might be a good time to try track. It will hopefully help me with cross-country, which I love just as much as soccer.”

Weather permitting, the Rams will have three girls’ soccer matches this week. After Monday, they’ll play at Carroll on April 4, then open the home schedule in Grand Junction on April 5 vs. Perry.
