Starting Monday, Dallas County Habitat for Humanity will be kicking the construction of a new house in Perry into overdrive.
Habitat is initiating what they’re calling a “blitz build” to get the new home under a roof before the end of the week. The construction began last December, and they were able to get the foundation completed. However, the adverse weather conditions so far this year have prevented them from making it any farther. The race to get the house finished will begin on Monday with a wall-raising starting at 8:30 a.m.
Anyone wanting to participate in the “blitz build” is encouraged to reach out to Dallas County Habitat Coordinator Omar Padilla at 515-238-5785. Padilla reminds people that even if they’re not needed this week, there will be plenty more opportunities to volunteer throughout the spring and summer. The new home is located at 1726 8th Street in Perry, and it’s the first of two new Habitat homes being built this year.
