The Panora City Council met for a special session Thursday night.
The meeting was held to address the imminent danger of the Lenon Mill Dam which recently suffered a breach due to flooding. City Administrator Lisa Grossman told the Council at Monday’s regular meeting that she was going to spend $5,000 on rock to be stockpiled for emergency use. The dam is owned by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and following discussion, DNR officials have given the City the okay to place rock in the breach as soon as possible. The Council approved to spend up to $50,000 on rock from the Martin Marietta mine in Ames. Grossman says the City hopes to get the rock filled by the end of next week. The breach was a major concern as the Lenon Mill Dam creates the city’s plunge pool water source.
