The ACGC track and field teams competed at the Kip Janvrin Invitational in Panora on Tuesday. The boys team came away with the title out of seven schools competing, while the girls finished in 3rd out of eight participating schools.
The Charger boys once again swept the middle-long distance events. Senior Clay Billheimer took both individual titles in the 800 and 1600 with season-best times of 2:08.01 and 4:47.31 respectively. Classmate Noah Nelsen wrapped up another individual title in the 3200 with a season-best mark of 10:09.47.
The sprint medley relay team of Austin Wierick, Jacob Fox, Gabe Rowley, and Billheimer also took the top spot with a school record time of 1:41.94. The other top finish for the boys came in the distance medley relay team of Cayden Jensen, Wierick, Charlie Crawford, and Nelsen. Though not claiming the top spot, junior Quynton Younker broke his own school record in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 2.5 inches to place 3rd. The boys team finished with a total of 133.5 points, nearly 20 points clear of 2nd place Woodbine.
On the girls side, junior Kate Crawford swept the 1500 and 3000 with times of 5:07.20 and 11:02.05 respectively. Shortly after finishing the 3000, Crawford talked about her growing leadership role for the team. “It’s really different not having all of those seniors that we had last year, because ever since my freshman year they’ve always been part of leading the team. But it’s also nice to be able to guide the younger runners.”
Senior Madison McDermott grabbed another shot put title as well with a throw of 37 feet, four inches. The girls scored 90 total team points, while Panorama won their home meet with 218. To see a full list of results, click on the link below:
