The Greene County Historical Society invites everyone to their first regular monthly program of 2019.

The program typically happens on the first Friday of the month, but due to a death and funeral of a long active member of the society, it has been pushed back to next Friday at 1pm at the United Methodist Church in Cooper. Dennis Peer, who lives in Iowa Falls but is originally from Cooper, will be portraying the pioneer Iowa businessman and the namesake of the town, Issac Cooper. Peer went to Cooper High School until it closed in 1959, and then he graduated from Jefferson High School the following year. He then earned his bachelor and master’s degrees in theater from the University of South Dakota. He taught theater for 38 years at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, where he lives with his wife Becky until he retired.

Peer will also portray other notable people from Cooper during the free program as well.

A lunch will be provided before the program at noon. The cost for the lunch is $8 for historical society members and $10 for non-members. Contact Nancy Hanaman at 515-436-7684 by April 9th to reserve a meal. Otherwise, there’s no pre-registration needed for the 1pm free program.
