Although the Greene County high school boys’ soccer team has played just two matches, the 2-0 Rams have one of the top goal scorers and point scorers in the state. Junior Gutierrez, a high school junior, had eight goals, four assists, and 20 points as the Rams have cruised to a pair of easy victories to begin the season.

Gutierrez ranks second in goals scored in Iowa boys’ high school soccer and trailed Danville’s Tristan Miller by a single goal. Miller has played five times. Miller and Gutierrez are tied for the top spot in points scored with 20 and Junior’s four assists are tied are one out of the State lead.

Ram sophomore Luis Velazco, who also runs on the track team, has scored 12 points on five goals and two assists in Greene County’s two matches, which puts him in the top 15 in the state goals and points.

Coach Carl Behne’s team opens the home portion of the schedule on Tuesday, April 9 in Grand Junction vs. Grandview Christian (Des Moines) at 5:30 p.m. GVC doesn’t have enough players for a JV team, so it’s varsity only vs. the Defenders.
