The Relay for Life of Greene County main event is next weekend and there are ways to be apart of the fun.
Leadership Team Chair Tori Riley says the theme is “Find Your Super Power” and customized t-shirts, sponsored by American Athletic Incorporated/Spaulding, are available to everyone for $16 at ShineOn Designs in Jefferson. Typically the t-shirts featuring the logo were reserved for those on fundraising teams, but Riley explains why they wanted to allow everyone to have one.
“Well we heard from a lot of people that they were not able to be on a team but they really wanted the t-shirt. We think it’s a great promotion for our relay. So we wanted to make it easier to get them out and about. We found out that with some teams that t-shirt wasn’t really an incentive for people to go out and raise the money anyway. So this way the people that want the t-shirts can have the t-shirts.”
Riley points out that the 5K fun run/walk will also take place during the main event on Saturday, April 27th. The race will start and end at the Greene County Community Center. It will start at 10:45 a.m., following the survivor walk at 10:20. Cost to participate in the race is $20 for those 13 and older and $10 for those 12 and younger before April 20th. The fees go up $5 after the 20th. Each participant will also receive a free meal ticket and a separate t-shirt.
Forms for the 5K can be found at the community center or by clicking the link below. The main event will be from 9am to 2pm and Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live, playing music and making local announcements from 9am to noon.
