Greene County High School has a total of six events qualified for the 2019 Drake Relays at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Four of those are on the boys’ side and two are for girls. Competition starts later this afternoon for high school athletes and the Rams will have three of their six events done today.

Carter Morton in the high jump and Tyler Miller in the shot put both have boys’ events that start at 4:30 p.m. Brianna Osterson is in the girls’ long jump starting at 5 p.m. Morton and Miller are juniors while Osterson is a sophomore. Morton ranks among Iowa’s best high jumpers so far this season with a clearance of 6′ 8″. Miller’s best distance in the shot is 52′ 3″, and Osterson’s best leap is 17′ 3″.

All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations will have a report on the Drake Relays at 7:10 p.m. this evening.

Junior Colby Kafer will be in the boys’ long jump Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. Kafer set a new PR (personal record) two days ago at 22′ 1″ to win the Woodward-Granger Hawk Invitational. Saturday morning will see both 4 x 100 meter relays for the Rams compete in the preliminaries. Osterson, senior Melanie Doran, junior Maddy Sigler, and sophomore Makala Kafer make up that quartet. The boys’ 4 x 100 is expected to have Morton, Kafer, and fellow juniors Tyler Teeples and Brent Riley.
