The Perry Public Library recently turned 25-years-old, and the community is invited to the Anniversary Celebration this weekend.

Library Director Mary Murphy says for 100 years the building currently known as the Carnegie Library Museum was in fact the public library. However, the City wanted a bigger space and more state-of-the-art facility, and the current library was built. It officially opened on April 19th, 1994, and to celebrate that occasion, the library will have an open house on Sunday from 1:30-3 p.m. There will be a presentation on the history of the Perry libraries, as well as tours and refreshments.

Murphy says people can also contribute to the Friends of the Perry Public Library, which raises money to support the library’s programs and services, by purchasing a 25th anniversary-themed piece of memorabilia. “We will have some Friends fundraising t-shirts available, it’s kind of a take off on the fundraising t-shirts that they did in ‘94. And on the back of the t-shirt, I have 25 things that you can do at our library. It was hard to stuff them all in to 25! So it’ll be interesting, and if you want to support the library you can buy a t-shirt.”

The open house is free to attend and no registration is required. To learn more about the 25th Anniversary Celebration, stop in or call the Perry Library at 515-465-3569.
