A nice night for track & field resulted in some good performances for the Greene County High School teams on Monday in Alleman at the North Polk Comet Invitational. Neither Ram team competed at full strength with girls’ head coach Derek Merk and boys’ head coach Chad Morton trying different events for some athletes.
The girls were fifth among eight teams with 72 points. NP won with 140 and Roland-Story (Story City) was second with 83. Ames had 80.5 with Nevada at 80, then Greene County, Collins-Maxwell 67, South Hamilton (Jewell) 63.5,a nd one point for Woodward Academy. The top finishers for the Rams were three first place finishes. Lily Muir won the long jump at 15′ 11-1/2″. The sprint medley relay of Paige Heaning, Maddy Sigler, Makala Kafer, and Brianna Osterson was first in 1:58.17, and the 4 x 200 meter relay was first in 1:51.73 with Melanie Doran, Kafer, Sigler, and Osterson.
The boys were seventh among nine teams with 50 points. NP had 93, followed by Nevada 81, SH 80, R-S and PCM (Monroe) 68, Woodward Academy 53, the Rams, Ames 36, and Bondurant-Farrar 22. Carter Morton ran the 400 meter low hurdles for the first time this season and won in 57.41 seconds. He was second in the 110 high hurdles in 15.39 seconds, and long jumped for the first time and was third in 20′ 8-1/4″. Colby Kafer was second in the long jump with a personal best 21′ 5-1/4″.
The Greene County teams go to Nevada on Thursday for the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet.
