It’s National Nurses Week and Greene County Medical Center has a total of 76 nurses in several different departments.
Chief Nurse Executive Katie Heldt says there are 64 registered nurses (RN), seven licensed practical nurses (LPN) and five advanced registered nurse practitioners (ARNP) employed by the medical center. One of the highlights of the week is marked by the DAISY Award, which is given to a nurse for extraordinary patient care. Heldt talks about the ways nurses are nominated for the award.
“The nice thing about this award is, these men and women are nominated by typically patients’ family members, patients themselves, peers, etc., etc. Sometimes nurses feel like it’s just my job and they don’t realize how sometimes the little things they do mean so much to patients and families.”
The public is invited to attend the DAISY Award ceremony at 1:30pm Wednesday at the medical center education center.
