It’s National Nursing Home Week and Greene County Medical Center is proud of their Long-Term Care Unit.

Chief Nurse Executive Katie Heldt says there are several nurses that provide oversight for medication, supervision for therapy, tend to residents’ wounds and engage in daily activities. Some of the activities the residents take part in include going out to lunch, sing-alongs, card games and church services. There are also quiet activities for those that want a calmer environment. With it also being Older Americans Month, Heldt says they have a program that promotes healthy movement for residents, called Restorative Therapy.

“That is a program designed in collaboration with 21st Century Rehab to promote mobility, to get people to encourage them to continue to walk to the best of their ability. They exercise with a restorative aide everyday.”

Heldt adds, they also do a survey from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that they use to help them gather feedback.

“We use that information to make changes. We appreciate the feedback so much. Once again that’s an excellent team being led by Lori Harrah up there. We’re proud to say we’ve maintained our five-star rating from CMS.”

Heldt points out that for a lot of their residents Long-Term Care is their home, so they try to make it as much of a home environment as possible. To hear more from Heldt, listen to today’s Community State Bank in Paton Let’s Talk Greene County program.
