At the most recent Adel City Council meeting, there were public hearings related to two upcoming projects, which have very different scopes.

The first was for plans and specifications for the City Hall window replacement project, which the City has been working towards for several months. The bids were received for the work on May 10th, with the low bid being $68,500 from Anderson Services, LLC. The engineer’s estimate was $77,000. Work will commence immediately and is not expected to disrupt normal business at City Hall, though there’s no firm timetable for when it will be finished.

The second public hearing was for plans and specifications for the new wastewater treatment plant, which the City has been planning for nearly four years, and is expected to cost around $14 million. Gary Brons with McClure Engineering told the Council they expect to receive four to six bids for the project, which will be presented for consideration at the June 11th meeting. The project is being financed in part by the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development program, and is expected to be completed in mid-to-late 2020.
