The ACGC track and field teams continued their showing at the 2019 Iowa High School Co-Ed State Track and Field Meet, Friday. A pair of ACGC girls reached the top ten in the field events.
Freshman Chloe Largent finished 9th in the high jump, tying her school record clearance of five feet, two inches. Largent was a little hesitant during the first day of practice, but she tells Raccoon Valley Radio about her journey to the state meet. “The first day of practice, I was jumping over 3’8’, barely making it over, inside. Then we moved outside and at my first meet I got 4’8’’ and I thought that was a huge accomplishment. I knew with all my training and skills that once I got here I would do pretty well.”
Senior Madison McDermott grabbed her highest career placement at the state meet, finishing in 6th in the discus with a throw of 118-11. The girls and boys distance medley relay teams also competed on the blue oval. The boys finished in 21st and the girls finished in 22nd. After two days of competition, the girls sit in a tie for 11th place with 11 points and the boys are in a tie for 45th with one point.
The Chargers will have four entries today, all in the long distance events. Junior Kate Crawford will compete in both the 800 and 1500 meter runs. Seniors Clay Billheimer and Noah Nelsen will run in the 800 and 1600 respectively.
