The Panorama boys golf team will continue their season for one more week after qualifying for the state tournament on Friday.
The Panthers finished third in the team standings at their district competition in Carroll with a total score of 353. The top two teams advance to state along with the top two individuals not on one of those teams. However, because one of the teams to come out of the district was the host school, the third place team also moves on.
Host Kuemper Catholic was the top team in the district with a total of 312 while Des Moines Christian finished second at 318.
Panorama’s Kolby Shackelford tied for the top individual score at the district as one of three players to shoot 74 on the par-71 course. He’ll be one of the favorites to win the individual state championship after missing out on the title by just one stroke last year.
The rest of Panorama’s squad is made up of Ryan Klinge, Wyatt Appleseth, Lucas Leiferman, Trey Cobb and Dylan Douglass. While six golfers played for each team, only the four best scores were counted toward the team total.
The Class 2A State Tournament will be held Thursday and Friday at American Legion Memorial Golf Course in Marshalltown.
