
Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2019 at Perry High School will be on Sunday, May 28th, but this past week many of them received scholarships and special recognition.
On Wednesday, the school held its annual Senior Awards Night, and a wide variety of local scholarships were presented, ranging from $100 to $3,000. Organizations contributing funds included the Perry Kiwanis Club, Hispanics United for Perry, and Tyson Fresh Meats, and there were awards made in honor of individuals, such as Josh Davis, Trent Miner, and Alex Macias. There were also 18 students who received the prestigious President’s Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, which required a 3.5 grade point average and a 21 or higher on the ACT’s.
Other special recognition was given, including: 12 students who received the National Association of Secondary School Principal’s Citizenship Awards; 10 who were given the Spirit of a Bluejay Award; 12 who received honors from branches of the military; and an assortment of students who earned individual department awards. Finally, Kaleb Olejniczak was named an Iowa Governor’s Scholar and received an Iowa High School Athletic Association Bernie Saggau Award, and Jayden Whitney was named to Iowa’s Academic All-State, each of which is a highly prestigious honor.
