The Perry Chamber of Commerce is ready to kick off their big summer celebrations this week, with the first of two Friday Fest events.

The Friday Fests will sandwich the annual Fourth of July festivities, with a focus on music and community. Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti outlines the details of the free event. “It’s going to be at Pattee Park from 6:30-10 (p.m.). We have a band called South of Society, (who’s) kind of based in the Adel area, joining us with live music, and we’ll have face painting (and) things like that. So it is ‘bring your own basket,’ and then we’ll have food vendors there as well. So (it’s) just a very fun, casual, family-friendly atmosphere (with) great music. Hopefully, cross our fingers, a beautiful evening with the weather!”

Pasutti adds, beer and wine will be allowed at the event, though she asks that people not bring any glass bottles and keep everything in the bandshell area. The Chamber had hoped to possibly have Friday Fest downtown, though that was nixed when they didn’t get approval for people to bring their own alcoholic beverages to Josh Davis Plaza. Pasutti says they’ll try again for the second Friday Fest event of the year, which will be on August 2nd.
