An Elkhart man was sentenced to a year of probation after reaching a plea agreement with the Dallas County Attorney’s Office.

Court records show that on June 7th, 55-year-old Mark Gordon Parmenter pleaded guilty to one count of third degree harassment, a simple misdemeanor. He was given a one-year deferred prison sentence, and one year of probation. He was also issued a no-contact order for the victim and will have to pay a civil penalty and court costs. Per the agreement, the court dismissed the initial charges of two counts of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, a class C felony. The judgement comes on the heels of two mistrials earlier this year related to those charges.

Parmenter was accused of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 18 in Perry during July of 2010. The victim was also reportedly assaulted by his son, 29-year-old Eric Chandler Parmenter, who was convicted last November of two counts of third degree sexual abuse, a class C felony, and is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence.
