The Perry Sesquicentennial Celebration is nearly upon us, and organizers have begun promoting specific events during the weekend.

Several of the festivities on Saturday, July 6th will be aimed specifically at kids, centered around the Perry Public Library. Library Director Mary Murphy says the kids events will start at 11 a.m. with activities on Railroad Street, including bubble gum blowing and pie eating contests. Inside the library will be an assortment of other activities, including face painting, balloon twisting, and giant party games. Additionally, the popular bubble station featured at KidsFest will return. The main event of the day will be a special concert featuring Grammy Award-winning artists the “Okee Dokee Brothers,” who will perform from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on the Railroad Street stage.

Murphy says the duo performs country music just for kids, and she believes they’ll be a big hit. “That is the biggy that’s going to happen. So come and have your fun and games, but then come to the concert that’s going to to be outside on Railroad Street. The stage will be right there, you can’t miss it. So if you were thinking about wandering up there and having a good time, and then sitting out on the lawn at the Carnegie or the library, and listening to the band, I think you’re going to have a great time!”

In addition to the activities downtown, there will be old-style games starting at 2:30 p.m. in the grassy area at 3rd and Lucinda streets, sponsored by the Perry School District. Finally, visitors to the library during the day can also take part in a scavenger hunt, which Murphy says will take people all around downtown Perry. Participants will be rewarded with a Perry 150th temporary tattoo.
