A severe thunderstorm that started in Greene and made its way through Dallas County activated the Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team Wednesday afternoon.

At 2:30 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a warning for Greene and Carroll counties, as there were radar-indicated 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts and the threat of penny-sized hail. The storm dissipated briefly and the initial warning was allowed to expire just before 3 p.m. However, it picked up steam again and a second warning was issued for Greene and Boone counties at 3:10. The storm then tracked south and by 3:40 a third warning was issued, which included Dallas County and portions of Boone and Polk. The biggest threat with the storm aside from the wind was torrential rainfall, which created the possibility of flash flooding.

The second warning expired at 3:45 p.m., and the third fell off at 4:15. Nine members of the Severe Weather Action Team aided in the live coverage of the storm, along with Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams and meteorologists from Weatherology. There is still a threat for severe weather the rest of the evening due to unstable atmospheric conditions. Whenever severe weather affects the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area, count on the Severe Weather Action Team to keep you informed about the storm.
