Guthrie County residents may spot a new face around the courthouse as the County Attorney’s Office welcomed a new employee this week.

John Twillmann has been hired as the new Assistant County Attorney, a position that was held by the now retired Tim Benton. Twillmann is originally from St. Louis, Missouri, and received his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Iowa. Since then his professional experience has included small-town law practices, working as a clerk for the sixth judicial district, and a corporate counsel position in Des Moines. Twillmann shares one of the reasons he desired working as the assistant county attorney, “I wanted a lot more courtroom experience. I wanted something that was kind of action-packed and every day would be something different, which isn’t to say that my previous employer or my previous jobs didn’t have that but I think being at the County Attorney’s Office will just take that to a whole new level.”

Twillmann adds that he hopes to assist the attorney’s office to the best of his ability and do the most good he can for residents. Twillmann resides in West Des Moines, and he is an avid hunter in his free time.
