A house burned to the ground early Saturday morning south of Perry, and the cause of the blaze is a mystery to officials.

At around 5:07 a.m., a neighbor of a house located at 17376 K Trail noticed flames coming from the structure. After investigating, the individual called 911 and emergency crews arrived on scene at 5:25. Assistant Perry Fire Chief Brian Eiteman reports that when he arrived, the log cabin was completely engulfed in flames, so the best firefighters could do was battle it down and prevent the fire from spreading. No one was home at the time, as the owners were reportedly camping at Springbrook State Park this weekend, and Eiteman said there were no injuries. At this time, he’s unsure what caused the fire, and given the complete destruction of the structure, he doubts they’ll find a specific cause.

The Perry Fire Department was aided at the scene by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Dallas County Emergency Medical Services. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
