The City of Casey’s 150th celebration is happening this weekend, with appearances from those known on a local and state level.
The community has had famous Casey Red Cross Rooster “Jack Pershing” on loan from the State Historical Society since last January. In honor of the thousands of dollars this once-living rooster raised for the Red Cross during World War I, the Casey Historical Reception will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Community Building and will feature an “auction” of the rooster to raise funds for the local food pantry. Chairperson Trista Emgarten mentions other special guests the Sesquicentennial will host, “We will have Governor (Kim) Reynolds attending our parade and our Pioneer Reception and we’ll also have Kevin and Mollie Cooney, they were former channel 8 KCCI news reporters, and they’ll be attending both the parade and the reception.”
Raccoon Valley Radio will be taking part in the fun Saturday, playing music and providing public service announcements from noon to 3 p.m.
