The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.

The Council held a public hearing on the Status of Funded Activities for the Jefferson Community Development Block Grant Owner Occupied Rehabilitation program. It is a grant that is administered by Region XII Council of Governments. The public hearing was a requirement of the program because Region XII had spent over 50-percent of the funds. Region XII Housing Programs Coordinator Karla Janning said they have helped four homes, are halfway done with another home and are looking to complete a sixth project. The Council took no action following the hearing.

The Council then held another public hearing on the amendment to the Urban Revitalization Plan. The amendment was to eliminate the sunset date of every three years reviewing and approving the three-year, 100-percent tax abatement on single-family residential properties for building a new home or making improvements to an existing home. Another part of the amendment was establishing a ten-year, 100-percent tax abatement for multi-family residential properties. The Council approved the amendment following the hearing.

The Council set the next council meeting on July 23rd as the public hearing date to rezone a lot near St. Joseph’s Catholic Church from Residential Single Family to Multifamily Residential. The Planning and Zoning Commission has reviewed the request and it recommended approval to the Council.

During reports, Mayor Pro Tem Harry Ahrenholtz talked about the Greene County Development Corporation meeting. He said there was an initial presentation made by Nate Adams with Principal Real Estate Investors about converting the middle school into apartments. GCDC also approved to spend $3,500 for Peter Franks of Franks Design Group to do an initial assessment for the former Angie’s Teagarden building.
