Work has officially begun on the new industrial technology facility and wrestling/multipurpose room at Perry High School, and there’s a lot going on behind the scenes as well.

At the most recent Perry School Board meeting, much of the agenda was in some way related to the project. Superintendent Clark Wicks says that’s standard operating procedure when dealing with construction of this scale. “When you have $6.5 million of bonds, there is a ton of different regulations and work that needs to get done. So the Board approved a number of different action items to take care of the bonding process. Number two, we approved the bid pack one for the groundwork and the footings. It’s an exciting start and hopefully we’re going to have an exciting journey through this.”

The contract for bid pack one was awarded to Koester Construction from Grimes, who had the low bid of $815,000, which was below the engineer’s estimate. Wicks adds, at the end of August the District will receive proposals for bid pack two, which will cover the construction of the buildings themselves. The build phase is anticipated to start at the beginning of September, and the work is expected to be wrapped up by August of 2020. Wicks reminds people that during construction, much of the main parking lot at the high school will be closed off. As such, students and staff will need to park in the gravel lot to the south of Dewey Field.
