The 2019 Greene County Fair recently wrapped up and organizers are calling it a success.

Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Kayla Willms says over 400 people attended and over $24,000 was raised at the Junior Fair Premium Auction on Monday. With close to 200 4-H’ers and 50 Clover Kids, Willms was impressed with how this year’s county fair went and adds that this year was the most confident she’s felt putting together the 4-H activities and shows.

“I feel like I know all the pieces now. So it’s been great in that aspect to where I can tell somebody, ‘This is what needs to get done.’ And they just go do it. It was actually very smooth sailing this entire fair week.”

One highlight of the fair was crowning the county fair queen. The 2018 Greene County Fair Queen Gina Brown crowned this year’s queen, who is Chloe Berns. Berns described her reaction to being this year’s county fair queen.

“It feels great and I’m excited about it. I was super excited and I’m ready to go to the (Iowa) State Fair because Gina (Brown) said it’s an amazing experience.”

Dawn Rudolph will be inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame

Another recognition that happened at the county fair was finding out who will be inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame. This year’s honoree is Dawn Rudolph of Scranton. She talked about how she found out she was going to be inducted.

“Well when I got the call from the (Greene County) Extension office and they said it, I was like, ‘Wow, really?’ I guess I didn’t feel quite so deserving, but I’m very, very honored.”
