At a recent session of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors, one of the topics of conversation was what to do with recently acquired property.

During a facilities workshop, the Board discussed the impending purchase of the building and parking lot located at 818 Court Street in Adel, which was formerly the home of the Adel Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep-Ram car dealership. The location is adjacent to the current Dallas County Law Enforcement Center, and includes a 6,000 square-foot building on a nearly 14,000 square-foot lot. With the sale of the property to be finalized early this month, the County must now figure out how to utilize the space.

One possibility mentioned by Operations Director Rob Tietz was using it for Emergency Medical Services or Secondary Roads, since the building is already equipped with five garage bays. Another possibility was to join it with the current jail facility, which is expected to be remodeled into courtrooms and a holding area once the new law enforcement center is finished. A third idea was using the building for archive storage, which is currently housed in various locations around the County. The Board said they will do more research and consider all the possibilities carefully before making a decision.

The Supervisors did revel in what seems to be an abundance of available space, considering as recently as last year there were concerns of running out of facilities for County functions.
