After tonight, around seven tons of sweet corn will be shucked and ready to serve, so the public can stuff their faces full of it at the 40th annual Adel Sweet Corn Festival tomorrow.

Activities will begin at 8 a.m. with the Sweet Corn 5K fun run, presented by the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce. Following that, the annual parade will commence, which Chamber Board Vice President Rebecca Hillmer says is one of the biggest in central Iowa every year. “I think it’s a pretty awesome parade, it can take up to two hours for everything to go through. It starts (at) about 9:30. And I know a lot of small town parades or bigger city parades will spend a lot of time with tractors and firetrucks and everything, but we actually end up with a lot of cute, customized floats on there. A lot of our businesses and our churches really get into it!”

The parade lineup will start at around 7:30 a.m. tomorrow at the corner of 18th Street and Main, and Hillmer points out there’s no cost or registration to take part. Immediately following the parade, the free sweet corn will be served, with people able to take as much as they can hold in their hands. The downtown vendors, kids activities, and car show will also begin following the parade. There will also be free concerts and other presentations throughout the day at the Stage and Pavilion, with the evening wrapping up with the all-ages Street Party featuring a beer garden and the band High South.

Additionally, the Raccoon Valley Radio Big Red Radio will be at the Adel Sweet Corn Festival. We will broadcast live on the square between 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., play music, and provide public address services.
