Don’t forget, there’s still time to sign up for this weekend’s HabiTour bike ride event, sponsored by Heart of Iowa and Dallas County Habitat for Humanity.
Bike riders of all ages and skill levels are invited to join the festivities, which will start and finish this Saturday in Perry. The fundraiser returns after being held two years ago in Greene and Boone counties, and organizers felt including Dallas this year would yield greater results. Habitat steering committee member Drew Miller says Hotel Pattee will serve as the hub for the event, with a free concert and meal held there after everyone finishes. There are three different lengths of rides – with 25, 50, and 100-mile options – and each will begin at a different time. Miller says by staggering the start times, their hope is that people will finish at the same time so everyone can celebrate together during the after party.
The registration charge for HabiTour is $10 per person, and each rider is asked to raise a minimum of $100 from outside sources. All funds will benefit both Habitat organizations. Miller is hopeful for good numbers for the event, and encourages people to get involved. “I know that the Raccoon River Valley Bike Trail is a big turnout for people, so we will be doing a loop on the trail. So if you want to support a great cause in Habitat for Humanity and enjoy a good bike ride with lots of family and friends, be sure to give Habitour a check out!”
