This Saturday, motorcycle enthusiasts and dog lovers alike are invited to the 11th annual Ruff Ride, a fundraising event for AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport in DeSoto.

AHeinz57 owner Amy Heinz says the event will be a poker run starting and ending in Adel, and will take people on a scenic ride through Dallas, Madison, and Guthrie counties. Riders will start their poker hands in Adel and pick up additional cards at several stops throughout the day, and prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the event. Heinz adds, there will be a barbeque dinner and concert featuring the band Abby Normal from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Adel Stage and Pavilion.

The cost to take part in the Ruff Ride is $25 per rider, and those without a motorcycle can buy a ticket on the party bus for $35. There is also a $5 cover charge to attend the concert. Heinz emphasizes that the funds collected will be a big help in caring for area dogs. “All the proceeds go to AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and will help us pay medical bills. Our regular spay and neuter bill every month can run us about $7,000-$8,000, and then our emergency vet bills can run us anywhere from $10,000-$20,000 a month. We do everything that a dog needs so we have big bills, and this helps us cover it. It’s our biggest event of the year, so we really depend on people to show up.”
