Further details have been released regarding a single-vehicle incident near Lake Panorama that resulted in one person being transported by Life Flight helicopter.

According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, at about 9:30 p.m. on August 27th, deputies received a 911 call for resident Kenny Powell having been pinned under a truck at his home located in the 4300 block of Panorama Drive. Prior to the deputy arriving on scene, Panora Fire and Emergency Medical Services removed Powell from the vehicle and transported him to the Panora Fire Station at 9:49 p.m. Powell was then taken by Life Flight to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

The deputy then spoke with Powell on September 3rd, who said he had 12 staples in his head and a broken pelvis. Powell told the deputy that on the evening of the incident he had returned home from fishing and unhooked his boat. He said he then noticed the windows were down in his truck, and when he entered the vehicle to raise the windows, the vehicle went in motion traveling down his driveway and across the road into his neighbor’s trees. He tried to jump out of the truck at the last second, but he then hit his head on the door and was unconscious for an unknown period. His wife then came outside and heard him screaming for help. He was found wedged between a tree and the truck. Lisa and Powell’s brother made multiple failed attempts to remove the truck from Powell and then called 911. Damages were estimated at $5,000 to the vehicle and $500 to trees.
