Prior to the start of the 2019 Greene County High School volleyball season, head coach Chris Heisterkamp told Raccoon Valley Radio one of the areas to improve upon was in the mental part of the game. She wanted to see more “fight” and determination, especially when the momentum had been lost. After Saturday’s South Central Calhoun Invitational in Lake City, the coach said that’s just what she saw. The Rams went 3-3 in matches and 8-7 in games on Saturday, prompting the coach to say, “It feels like we turned the corner today at this tournament.”

One of the victories was by a slim margin in a best two of three format vs. South Hamilton (Jewell). The Rams open Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action in Jewell on Thursday, Sept. 12 vs. SH. Greene County is 5-5 overall and the Hawks are 11-10. The Rams play in Eldora this Saturday at the South Hardin Tournament. Greene County will have multiple opportunities to pass the seven victories the 2018 Rams had for the season.
