The new year at Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Schools isn’t yet a month old, but the District has already addressed an identified student need.
The School Board recently approved the purchase of 50 Google Chromebooks to add to their current supply. Superintendent Greg Dufoe said the District got a good price of $13,950 for the machines from Erb’s Technology Solutions, which will be paid out of the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) funds. Dufoe explained the need for purchasing the laptops. “You know, we have Chromebooks one-to-one in grades 3-12, and we were just a little short to start the year. All kids had a Chromebook, they just weren’t of a new version. We were using some older models, and we don’t want to do that. So (Director of Technology) Chad Frerichs did a great job of identifying the need and we purchased 50 additional, but it should get us through this year.”
Dufoe added, the initial headcount in the District showed a student body of more than 2,000, and that figure has continued to grow even since the start of the school year. He said they’ll have accurate figures next month, but all indications are that enrollment is up and contributed to the computer shortage.
