The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.

During open forum, Samuels Group President Sid Samuels gave a brief update on the progress of the law enforcement center. He offered an updated schedule, which has the completion date tentatively set for February 20, 2020. He also went over the contingency log, which currently contains around $525,000, minus some funds held for change orders. The Board then approved a gardening request from the Adel Women’s Club, which will now take over maintenance of the rose gardens around the courthouse. The Board then discussed but took no action on an update to Region 11 of the Iowa Workforce Development, as well as a commitment letter to the Healthcare Coalition.

Several items on the agenda dealt with the Secondary Roads Department, starting with County Engineer Al Miller giving an update on the progress of road projects. Other roads topics included: approval of Assistant Engineer Andy Case for an out of state travel request for a class in Madison, Wisconsin this month; approval of a preconstruction agreement for road approach paving along Highway 17 near Granger through the Department of Transportation; and further discussion but no action on the process for disposal of eight vacated buildings.

Other items approved included: two resolutions to abate mobile home taxes; setting a public hearing for October 15th at 9:30 a.m. regarding a gas line easement with MidAmerican Energy; setting a public hearing for October 22nd at 9:30 a.m. for the first amendment to the fiscal year 2020 budget; and appointing Mark Sampson and Sue Ellen Kennedy to the Historic Preservation Commission.
