Greene County improved to 11-13 overall and 2-3 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference volleyball with a three set sweep over PCM (Monroe) in Jefferson on Tuesday night. Scores were 25-14, 25-22, 25-23.
Brianna Osterson led the Rams in kills with nine, while Sophia Havens and Natalie Heupel each recorded four kills, and Katrina Heupel and Haleigh Weir had three each. Katrina Heupel led in serving, going 19 for 19 with two aces. Paige Heaning was 10 for 10 with one ace, while Havens was eight for eight with an ace. Osterson was eight for 10 from the service line with one ace, followed by Aubrey Heupel at seven of eight with one ace, and Weir at seven for nine with an ace.
Head Coach Chris Heisterkamp told Raccoon Valley Radio the Rams jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first set. “We had an easy time wrapping up set one. In set two, the tide turned, and we found ourselves fighting back and forth for a narrow three point win. We gave them too many points on silly errors, while PCM started to find their groove. In set three, we had to fight through the nerves, knowing the match was on the line. I credit the girls for keeping their composure and finishing aggressively to take the win. We want to get better at staying tough in tense competition, so tonight was good for us to work on keeping our focus and pulling together to fight.”
The Rams play at Ogden tomorrow vs. the host Bulldogs and Southeast Valley (Cowrie).
