The West Central Valley School Board met in regular session Wednesday.

The meeting began with a presentation from Director of Teaching and Learning Amanda Nims, and an update from the Director of Buildings and Grounds. Next, the Board heard a proposal from Baker Group and then approved to have them do an engineering study on the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems at the Dexter Elementary and middle school. The Board then approved four legislative priorities to submit to the Iowa Association of School Boards: preschool funding, mental health support, school funding policy, and supplemental state aid.

Business Manager Symantha Crawford then presented this year’s certified enrollment numbers which show a decrease of about 12 students in the actual enrollment. The Board then approved a school resource officer agreement with the Stuart Police Department, choosing a 24-hour per week format which would cost about $2,515 monthly to the District. Later, the Board approved fall grounds care and snow bids from Schwinger Lawn Service of Stuart to do the Stuart school buildings and sports complex, and Short’s Lawn Care of Redfield to handle the Dexter and Redfield facilities. Finally, the Board approved West Central Sales’ proposal to perform online sales of the District’s obsolete equipment.
