Greene County and Paton-Churdan School districts recently announced their respective certified enrollment.

Greene County Schools Superintendent Tim Christensen says the district is down 8.89 students to 1,201.54. Even though the district still shows a decrease for actual enrollment, Christensen notes it’s better than last year when the district was down 29 students. The district has 1,120 students living in the district, which is up by 16.20. Additionally, 80.70 students have open enrolled  out of the district, which is down 25.60 students from last year.

Factors that make up the certified enrollment report include: dual enrolled students, those who open enrollment into the district and those who open enrollment to another district, along with the homeless assistance program, among others.

Christensen talks about another positive factor from the report.

“Pre-k(kindergarten) is separate from this (report). Our pre-k enrollment is actually up six FTE (full-time equivalent), and a pre-k student is actually 0.5 (of one student). So essentially our pre-k class this year compared to last year is 12 students more. If you would compare those, you could say we are down 2.89 (students).”

As for Paton-Churdan, Superintendent Kreg Lensch says 168 students are attending the school district, which is an increase of 3.9 students over last year. Those who open enrolled out have also dropped by ten students to 37.6 and pre-k numbers have grown by six students.

The certified enrollment is officially counted on October 1st and all school districts must submit their report to the state by October 15th.
