At the most recent Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School Board meeting, the majority of the action items on the agenda involved the future elementary building in Adel.

Superintendent Greg Dufoe says several of the topics involved approval of agreements with their financial advisors and bond attorneys as the District prepares to sell the first series of bonds in the amount of $10 million. However, he says the primary item approved was the design and development proposal from FRK Architects and Engineers, which also allowed the Board to get a look at an updated floorplan. “With the Board’s approval of the design and development package, it moves us closer to the architects working on the construction documents and moving towards the actual bid phase. So we’re excited that we’re still working through our timeline for that. So it looks beautiful, and we’re really excited, and we can’t wait to get to the bid part of this process.”

Dufoe points out, the total project cost has shifted a bit since the bond referendum was passed, though he says it won’t affect the taxpayers at all. The changes from the initial floorplan submitted a few months ago include: reducing the size of the gymnasium bleachers; improving the building’s circulation; and locations of office areas and meeting rooms. There will also be an alternate included in the bid package for one wing to be built to serve as a tornado shelter. Dufoe says the Board will examine the prices the bidders present before approving the addition.
