State Cross-Country Qualifying Meets will be held on Thursday around Iowa. For the first time since the sport began in Jefferson in 1981, Greene County will send the girls and boys to different sites. The boys go to a Class 3A meet in Atlantic while the girls run at Lake Panorama’s par three golf course west of Panora hosted by Panorama.
Head coach Jeff Lamoureux explains the situation that caused different qualifying sties for the Rams. “We have a sharing program in cross-country with Paton-Churdan and we have two boys from P-C and no girls. So, we have to count their enrollment on the boys’ side, but not the girls, meaning our boys were bumped up a class to 3A and the girls stayed in 2A.”
The top three teams and top 15 individuals in each race Thursday will advance to the Nov. 2 State Meet north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park.
