As Halloween gets closer, Greene County communities have announced their respective Beggar’s Nights.

The city-wide Beggar’s Night in Grand Junction is tomorrow from 5:30-7pm. Additionally, there will be a historical program at the community center, a ceremony to re-bury the time capsule at the library, followed by a community cook-out back at the community center from 3-5pm. Finally, there will be free trunk-or-treat on Main Street from 5-7:30pm for kids 12 and under.

The City of Scranton will have its Beggar’s Night and truck-or-treat in front of the library on Wednesday, October 30th from 5-7pm. The Churdan Library will be hosting a school-age kids Halloween party on October 30th and 31st from 2-5:30pm.

Other communities, including Churdan, Jefferson, and Paton will have their respective Beggar’s Nights on Halloween. Churdan’s Beggar’s Night is from 5-7pm and the City of Jefferson’s will be from 5:30-7:30pm, along with the City of Paton from 5:30-7pm. Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse says visibility is his biggest concern with trick-or-treaters.

“It’s very important that your child can be seen. And by that it can be reflective outfits, they make a little blinking lights that you can clip on your child, anything to make them visible. As we know at this time of year, it starts to get dark plenty early and the hours that are set for trick-or-treating, it’s obviously going to be dark during those periods, so be seen.”

The City of Rippey’s Beggar’s Night is also from 5-7pm on Halloween. Prior to that, the Rippey Library will host a free hotdog meal from 4-5pm, followed by a Rippey 150th Committee fundraiser meal of chili, soups, bars and beverages for a free-will donations from 5-9pm. A free movie will then be shown at 7pm with Hocus Pocus. The meals and the movie will be in the community center.
