The high school football regular season ends in Iowa tonight. Of all the games played across the Hawkeye state, only one has two teams with 8-0 records, and it’s the game broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Greene County travels northwest to Ida Grove as the Rams take on the OABCIG Falcons. Coverage begins at 6 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m. Greene County is fourth in the Class 2A rankings and sixth in the RPI (Ratings Percentage Index) while OABCIG is fourth in RPI and fifth in the polls.

Tonight’s winner takes the District 9 title, an automatic berth into the first round of the playoffs on Nov. 1, a home game to begin the playoffs, and completes an unbeaten regular season. The team on the short end of the score will still likely get a playoff spot, but it may not play at home, and they’ll have to settle for being second in the district.

Greene County head coach Caden Duncan talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about tonight’s game. “It’s an opportunity. That’s how we see it. It’s an opportunity to win a big game, finish the regular season undefeated and as district champions and get a home playoff game. That’s what we want for our team, our school, our communities, and fans. Our seniors especially want that outright district championship that they’ll have forever.”

Both teams feature high scoring offenses and stingy defenses. Quarterbacks Cooper De Jean for the Falcons and Brent Riley for the Rams have combined to throw 57 touchdown passes against just six interceptions. De Jean has tossed 30 TD passes and Riley 27. Both have been picked off just three times in eight games.
