Greene County had no State Cross-Country qualifiers at Thursday’s State Qualifying Meets. For the first time in the 38 years of high school cross-country based in Jefferson, the Rams sent teams to two different sites for State Qualifying. The boys were in a Class 3A meet in Atlantic while the girls were in a 2A meet at the Lake Panorama Par Three Golf Course hosted by Panorama High School. Paton-Churdan has two boys running for Greene County and no girls, so the P-C enrollment had to be counted on the boys’ side for classification purposes, which bumped the Rams into 3A. The top three teams and top 15 individuals in each race qualified for the Nov. 2 State Coed Meet north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park.
The girls were eleventh among 13 full squads at Lake Panorama. AC/GC won with 61 points, followed by Emmetsburg at 92, and Chariton with 95. Those three qualify for the Nov. 2 State Meet north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park. Panorama was fourth at 108, followed by Shenandoah 118, Albia 169, Clarinda 186, Des Moines Christian 215, Treynor 224, Red Oak 237, Greene County 272, Central Decatur (Leon) 294, and West Central Valley 311.
Senior Ashlee Harmeyer was the highest finisher for the Rams. Harmeyer ran the five kilometers (3.1 miles) in 23:36 and finished in 33rd overall and 31st toward the team score. Senior Kassie Lamoureux was 45th in 24:21, followed by junior Conner Allender, 58th in 24:52, senior Tieryn Tucker, 74th in 26:46, and freshman Olivia Shannon, 76th in 26:49.
The boys were also eleventh in a 13 team field. Carlisle was first with 44 points, followed by North Polk (Alleman) 59, and Atlantic 107. Harlan also had 107, but Atlantic got the third place spot and State berth based on the tie-breaker of its sixth place runner. ADM was fifth at 1220, followed by Glenwood 139, Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) 162, Denison-Schleswig 236, Creston 271, Boone 276, Greene County 308, Saydel (Des Moiens) 326, and Perry 353.
Sophomore Logan Woodruff was 43rd in 19:14.74, followed by junior Luis Velazco, 49th in 19:28.54, freshman Dakota Mobley, 70th in 20:27.03, freshman Ethan Frederick, 71st in 20:28.05, and sophomore Ethan Larson, 75th, in 20:44.04.
Head coach Jeff Lamoureux went to Atlantic and assistant Lindsey Duncan was with the girls at Panorama.
