Dallas County ISU Extension and Outreach joined forces recently with students and staff at Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Middle School, in order to get the school’s garden prepared for winter.

It was a rainy Saturday morning in late-October, but that couldn’t dissuade the Dallas County Master Gardeners and school representatives from getting to work on the enclosed green space. The participants pulled up weeds, shoveled a trench for a new rock bed around the base of the fence, and added some red and black-colored mulch to show some school spirit. The staff felt the students in attendance learned some valuable skills for gardening, and said everyone was proud of the work they were able to accomplish.

The garden will be on display during this year’s ADM Veteran’s Day event on November 11th, and the community is invited to check out the work done on the green space in the last year, in addition to celebrating the armed forces.
