The 2019 city and school election is nearly upon us, and Raccoon Valley Radio invites you to meet some of the candidates for a contested race in Dallas County.

Today we introduce two of the four candidates running for the three open positions on the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School Board. Tim Canney is the lone incumbent running for the four-year term this year. Aside from working at Lincoln Savings Bank in Adel, he has served on the Board for more than a decade, and much of that time has been as Board President. He says he’s running for re-election in order to keep the Board focused on the District’s vision, which is to help children learn at a high level. Canney points to his track record for school achievement and transparency as reasons for voters to re-elect him.

One of the three new candidates is Heith Hockenberry, who works in insurance and also serves on a variety of boards and commissions in the Adel area. He says he decided to run because he liked the direction the District has been heading – particularly in terms of the high level of student achievement – and he wants to do his part in helping that continue. Hockenberry feels he’s a good fit for the Board because he has experience dealing with schools as a risk management consultant, giving him a unique perspective.
