Perry Lutheran Homes proved Thursday afternoon that no matter the weather, it’s always a good time for ice cream, particularly when celebrating awards.

The PLH staff brought together members of the community, their Board of Directors, and residents of the elder care facility in recognition of the two awards they received recently from LeadingAge Iowa. Shannon Strickler, President and CEO of LeadingAge, was on hand to present the 2019 Public Trust Award for the PLH StepUp! Movement, as well as the 2019 Board Member of the Year Award to Bill Van Vliete. Strickler said they annually present nine awards to their member organizations for various accomplishments, and Perry Lutheran Homes has been a frequent recipient in the past.

In addition to the awards presentation, PLH also brought out a sundae bar so attendees could take part in an ice cream social. Director of Marketing Mollie Clark felt the turnout for the event was excellent, and she was glad they could share their excitement with people. “Well, it’s great to have everybody come together! We received this award in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and so we weren’t able to share that with the community, or our entire Board of Directors, or our residents and staff. So it was really fun to see community members gather here together with our residents and staff, and enjoy some ice cream and celebrate the awards!”

Clark added, Perry Lutheran Homes has already scheduled two big events for 2020, including their first annual “May Day” celebration on May 1st – which is taking the place of Meals from the Heartland – and the third annual “Run Through Time” on July 31st.
